Photographic Exhibition - Romney Noonan

Eagle Vale is currently hosting a photographic exhibition by local artist Romney Noonan. Romney specialises in Ocean-Scapes of the south west utilising time-lapse photographic techniques. The current collection captures the raw beauty distinctive character of the Cape to Cape Region.

About the Photos

"My equipment consists of a Bronica Zenza 6 x 4.5 medium format system which I use in conjunction with a 35mm Cannon EOS. Using both systems in parallel provides me with the combined benefits of superb image quality, for which medium format is renowned, while still enjoying the spontaneity that 35mm has to offer."

"My aim is to capture natural light and as such I never use coloured filters. However, I frequently use polarising filters which act like sunglasses for the lens. My images are invariably captured on fine grain transparency (slide) film which provides optimum reproduction clarity. I typically shoot very long exposures, varying from one second up to ten minutes. The combination of long exposures and quality film enables me to capture rich colour and fine detail. All of my images are printed on Kodak Professional photographic paper."

About the Photographer

"I grew up in the south west town of Waroona and started taking photos at the age of ten whilst on a family trip around Australia. Over the years my passion for the outdoors lifestyle and deep appreciation of nature, has gone hand-in-hand with taking photos. This relationship was cemented in my early twenties when I travelled abroad for several years. When I returned to Australia the familiar sights and sounds of my favourite beaches provided the inspiration to pursue photography at a higher level."

"The process of taking photos is meditative for me. I believe that the power, grace and glory of God are evident in the natural beauty of our world. My approach to photography is founded upon an appreciation of this natural beauty which is all around us. At times I have spent whole weeks sat quietly behind the lens, watching the subtle shades of light change. This appreciation of the way in which light falls is the essence of how I take photos. The solitude and peacefulness of the places that I visit are the reason why I enjoy photography so much."

"I have been fortunate to experience many vast wilderness areas which I repeatedly find to be at once both humbling and uplifting. It is a privilege to share with you some of the special moments that I have captured along the way."
